All Event Decorators

Wedding Wallah met with Jo at All Event Decorators.  They have recently moved to a larger showroom and have quite a few mandaps on display in their warehouse connected to their office.  All Event is one of the newer entrants into the "mandap industry."  They didn't have a lot of albums to show us and most of the mandaps they had designed were on their computer.  It was a little hard to see their prior work on a small laptop screen.  They do have some work on their website, but again, it looks dated and does not do justice to their actual showroo.

However, they made up for it by their flexibility and desire to cater to exactly what we wanted.  The consultation was different than others - instead of telling us what they could do, Jo first asked us what we wanted.  It was a nice change.  Perhaps this attitude was the result of them being newcomers and wanting to win business.  Whatever it was, Wedding Wallah liked it.

We would recommend this vendor for the bride who has an exact vision of what she wants her mandap to look like.  All Event Decorators are willing to design/build according to your desire, you just need to tell them what it is.

Wedding Wallah gives this vendor four stars.

Elegant Affairs

Elegant Affairs is one of the most popular names in Indian wedding decor. While they do decorations for all wedding events (ceremony, reception, sangeet, garba/raas), they are perhaps best known for their mandaps.

Their website shows a few samples of their work, though it has not been updated in quite some time, as well as a list of famous venues they have decorated.  Wedding WallahWedding Wallah called to make an appointment, we could not get in until a month out. decided to visit Elegant Affairs through multiple referrals.   Bride-to-bes should know that this vendor has a very large operation and when

Wedding Wallah met with Sharda Shenoy, one of the co-founders of Elegant.  We looked through several albums of recent weddings, walked around the showroom, pointed out what we liked, and were quickly sat down to draft a proposal.  We were told that we could have the following fabrics, in particular structures, and they would cost their respective amounts.  There was little room to change pre-set options.  Each additional items (adding two more aisle decor structures, petals, etc.) had a extra hefty price.  There was very little room for negotiation.

Brides who want the one of the most experienced mandap vendor and want to customize their mandaps as little as possible - Elegant Affairs is for you.  If you want to be a little bit more creative and different, then you might find it hard to work with them.

Wedding Wallah gives this vendor 3 stars - five stars for experience and a smooth running operation, but minus two stars for lack of flexibility.

How was your experience with Elegant Affairs?

Mandap Design

Wedding Wallah visited Mandap Design in the late fall of 2008 and sat down with the owner, Ravi.  The showroom and office are one room and the sample mandaps are all crowded into the same room.  This vendor has some of the latest structures.  We saw some of the newer styles like crystal mandaps and lit mandaps.   There were also a lot of Devdas-style mandaps.  Ravi showed us a few albums of his prior work, but a lot of that seemed dated.  We wanted to see his more recent work in an actual wedding, but that was on DVDs and his DVD player was having difficulties.

Mandap Design's prices were high, given that his mandaps were quite heavy looking structures and because they would require a lot of labor to set up and take down.  We did not sit down to discuss a formal proposal/detailed pricing because Ravi was in a rush and had to leave for a wedding that evening.

Wedding Wallah would recommend Mandap Design for brides who want very large, very structural mandaps that are very glitzy or traditional looking.  You can see good examples of their recent work on their website.  We would not go here for a simple mandap.  We give this vendor three stars - nice mandaps, though service could have been better.

House of Dipali

Wedding Wallah has not visited House of Dipali, but has heard decent things about them.  Their website shows some very traditional and very basic mandaps, but websites are not always representative of a vendor's actual or most recent work.  This is one of the few mandap vendors that is located in New York, so we thought it would be worthwhile to feature them on Wedding Wallah.
